Hello, this is Juliana, your rocketship captain speaking! 👋
Earlier this week, I launched a free and easy quiz for us to self-assess our branding score.
This quiz is part of my Brand Builder Mastermind launch (60% of early-bird spots reserved in 72 h!).
You may already have a nagging suspicion that you aren’t doing enough for your brand, and this quiz may confirm your suspicions.
I don’t mean to discourage anyone, but unless you are a fresh graduate in the first 3-5 years of your career, it is a massive red flag if your scores look like this:
- BRANDING: 0%
- SPEAKING: 10%
- WRITING: 5%
- MONETIZING: 0%
What these results should hopefully tell you is that you may be neglecting your professional identity in favor of putting your head down and praying your supervisor somehow notices you—and gives you a promotion and raise.
To build your brand in 2025, here are five simple steps you can take.
Most of them are free, and can even be done in your pyjamas.
It’s never too late to start.
Let’s go, shall we? 🚀
THE PROBLEM
Let’s first establish the problem we are trying to solve: we don’t have a strong and visible brand. Nobody is thinking of us for our products & services.
71% of my quiz respondents self-report that they are not top of mind in their industry niche.
Someone wrote to me saying, “It’s is not possible to answer this question as I don’t know what my peers are thinking.”
Trust me, when we are top of mind and top of category in an industry niche, WE WILL KNOW.
It won’t be wee little smoke signals.
It will look like the entire mountain is on fire.
If we are asking this question, it may imply that the answer is no.
SIMPLE STEP 1: Design a brand name or slogan
Now this is the lowest hanging fruit of them all.
What is your 7-9 word brand moniker or brand slogan?
50% of you have never thought about it... and I think it is time you did.
Mine is Juliana “rocketship captain” Chan, or “I help left-brained thinkers launch powerful brands.”
Notice the link between rockets, captain, and launching (a brand).
Did I also mention that all of my Mastermind members are called cadets?
Next, insert your newly crafted brand slogan into the headline section of your LinkedIn profile.
SIMPLE STEP 2: Wear your best smile and join an industry networking event
The majority of networking events I know about are free and easy to sign up for.
Some of them require that we pay a small amount of money, typically to cover F&B and venue rental.
And yet, 48% of us don’t go for networking events regularly.
Believe me, there were entire seasons when I didn’t go for a single networking event due to my two pregnancies, young children and bereavements.
I understand how hard juggling everything can get.
But if you wish to improve on your brand and reputation, this is the next lowest hanging fruit that I can recommend.
SIMPLE STEP 3: Get proper public speaking or storytelling training
Many of us dream of being invited as a keynote speaker or industry panelist, but 63% of us are still answering no to this question.
Many of us want to be promoted to team leader, get swamped with offers from recruiters, and be better appreciated by our industry mates, but 63% of us aren’t developing our executive presence and communication skills with leadership storytelling.
Getting a keynote invitation and being promoted to a leadership position is DIRECTLY correlated with our executive presence and public speaking skills.
All of us could frankly get a lot better at it.
Imagine if we wanted to become a stronger and healthier version of ourselves, but never hiring a physical trainer and putting in the reps.
Those muscles ain’t gonna grow on their own.
SIMPLE STEP 4: Post once a week on LinkedIn
LinkedIn is the most powerful discovery platform on the internet where decision makers and industry leaders hang out, and yet only 36% of us self-report that we post on LinkedIn once a week.
What are the other 64% of you doing for your professional brand on a weekly basis?
Posting on LinkedIn regularly is the easiest way to stay top of mind in your industry niche.
You can write about industry tips and provide industry updates, such as the events you’ve spoken at, client success stories and company-related news.
SIMPLE STEP 5: Find an industry mentor who will endorse you
The hidden job market refers to professional opportunities that are not publicly posted and mostly discovered by word of mouth.
If you are scrolling through LinkedIn trying to search for new job openings, that is only good for commoditized positions until the executive and mid-managerial level.
The best stuff?
Very seldom found online.
Very seldom posted on any job board.
To find the best stuff, you need a sponsor or mentor to open doors for you.

This week has been both exhilarating and exhausting for me and my team.
On Tuesday, I launched the Brand Builder Mastermind, an annual subscription to help you build a brand, speak & write better, and make money from it.
We have been onboarding 10-20 people a day.
60% of my Mastermind early-bird spots have been reserved in 72 h.
This flash sale will end soon.
